Sensex hits 15K; SBI, SAIL, NTPC, L&T, RComm, Rel Infra up
At 14:38 hours IST, the benchmark indices were trading higher despite a bit of volatility. Infrastructure (capital goods + power), metal (barring Sterlite), auto, pharma and select financial stocks were helping the Nifty to stay above the 4500 level. The Sensex also touched the 15,000 mark.
However, the sell-off in Reliance Industries, Sterlite, Bharti, Wipro, Reliance Power, Reliance Petroleum, Grasim, Hero Honda, Ambuja Cements and ACC capped the gains.
The Nifty surged 44 points, to 4,528 and the Sensex went up 126 points, to 15,002. The broader indices were outperforming the benchmark indices; the BSE Midcap Index rose 2% and the Smallcap Index gained 1.9%.
The market breadth turned positive; about 1435 shares advanced while 1305 shares declined. Nearly 405 shares were unchanged.
On the sectoral front, the BSE Power, Metal, Capital Goods and Bank indices were up 2-2.5%. Realty, Auto and Healthcare indices went up 1% each. Reliance Power was down 1.8% and Reliance Natural Resources fell 6%, after yesterday’s rally.
IVRCL Infrastructure bagged order worth Rs 432 crore and the stock gained 1%.
In the midcap space, Tech Mahindra, IndusInd Bank, Great Offshore, IDBI Bank and Shree Renuka were up 8-12%. In the smallcap space, Spectacle Industries, Sulzer, Everonn Systems and Atul shot up 12-18%.
