Now, R-Comm may bring T20 WC matches to your mobile
Reliance Communication may ink a deal with ESPN Star to broadcast ICC World T20 matches on mobile phones, reports CNBC-TV18 quoting sources. Sources say that it will be a deal based on the revenue-sharing model. We have heard from sources that the deal will be a revenue sharing one. So, it won’t be an upfront payment for content. But depending on the uptake of content from subscribers of Reliance Communications, there would be revenue sharing on whatever charges Reliance Communications charges its subscribers.
But this entire news is source-based and we do not have any confirmation. When we tried getting in touch with an R-Com spokesperson he said that as of now he couldn’t comment on anything. There is a presser that they have invited the media to at 2:45 pm and that is when they will announce.
This is a very new technology, and nobody has really done it. We hear from sources that they plan to stream these matches live. This is very crucial because if it is not live and if the user experience on the mobile handset is not good, then this entire deal will fizzle out. For that to work out for R-Com, they would need sufficient bandwidth so that people can watch live on their mobiles. As they say pioneers take arrows, this deal could be fraught with risks if the execution is not done well.
There is no word yet on pricing because that again holds the key for this entire thing to be successful for R-Com.
